A Gaussian Splat Is Not a Printable Mesh

A PLY or SPLAT splat is for turning a subject around in the browser. It is not an STL solid. Read this before you send the file to a printer. Not a solid part.

Inspect STL geometry locally before slicing, 3D printing, conversion, or model handoff.

A common disappointment happens after the download: the file will not slice. That is expected when the file is a Gaussian splat. PLY or SPLAT from this generator is for orbiting a subject in a browser. A slicer wants a closed mesh, often STL or a similar solid.

Do not rename the download and hope the printer understands it. The difference is the kind of geometry, not the filename. A splat describes how the subject looks from captured views. A print file describes a solid with an inside and an outside.

If you already know you need a printable figurine, do not start here and then feel misled. This page is the warning. The generator is honest about PLY and SPLAT. It does not advertise a print-ready solid.

If you already generated a splat and you like the look, keep it for review and sharing in the viewer. Treat a later mesh, if you make one elsewhere, as a second artifact. Do not delete the splat just because it cannot be printed. It still answers the orbiting job.

Free browser tools on this site can open meshes and can open PLY. Opening a file is not converting a splat into a watertight solid. Conversion that invents thickness is a different product decision, and this page does not claim that button exists.

Before you pay for more credits, decide which artifact you want. Credits on this product pay for splat generation. They do not buy a promise of a printable part. The pricing page is where pack rules live. This page only stops the file-type mistake.
